When will I write theology?

I think I’ll wait until my knowledge of Greek (and hopefully Hebrew) is good enough that I can just sit down and read the text and then turn and have a conversation in Koine (or Hebrew)  with my wife about the text. At that point, I’ll be ready.

  1. We theologize with every breath. Your deepest expressions of heart and mind to your wife are probably in English. So English is the natural medium for your ponderings of God.

  2. Besides, my point was less that I would write or speak theology in Greek and more that by the time I can proficiently speak and converse in Greek my understanding of the language would have developed enough to understand the text as accurately as possible.

  3. You know, Erasmus and More used to sit around chatting in Greek and Latin and even played word games in those languages. Perhaps through the net a similar salon would be possible.

P.S. When are you going to Greece?

  4. I’ll probably just go to Greek town, find a native speaker and do some TPR…

Hmmm, now that I’ve had this idea…I might have to make time to act on it.
