On the reading of books on Greek Linguistics…

Let me give you a piece of advice.

If you’re reading a book about Hellenistic Greek that seeks to implement linguistic theory, go to the section on linguistic methodology.

If the author merely makes a simplistic distinction between Generative frameworks and Functional frameworks (or perhaps Chomskyan vs. compared to Firthian/Hallidayan), I would suggest being suspicious.

    The problem with naming names is that I then need to significantly qualify my statement because all of the books or articles I can think of have exegetical value. I’m doing some research to confirm some of what I was thinking. I don’t want draw hasty conclusions…
